Basic Porridge

My Mum lived to be 91 years, as did her father, and they both enjoyed Basic Porridge regularly.  To this day, Porridge is still one of my best breakfast meals ever !

  • 2 cups (180g) rolled oats (not instant)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups water
  • Pinch salt

Place oats, milk, water and salt in a saucepan. Stir over a low heat for 5-minutes, or until it reaches a gentle simmer. Leave to gently simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until creamy. Top up with a little extra milk until you reach the desired consistency.

This will make enough for 6 serves.

I like mine with a spoon of raw sugar sprinkled over the top.  Jim likes his with some of Uncle Jim’s honey drizzled over the top, you can have it in so many ways.  Just give it a try.
