After leaving Australia, we arrived in LA, and then took a short flight to Las Vegas. Las Vegas has lived up to what we expected, though I believe that things overall have got a lot more expensive this time. Might I add, that the exchange rate sucks if you are an Aussie. After speaking to a couple of uber drivers, they updated us saying that the basic wage has increased a lot in the US and this in turn has increased the prices of all things. It is probably a good thing that the basic wage has increased, this would then mean that the reliance on tipping would have dropped as well.
We stayed at a nice place not too far from the strip. Handy to all things.
After Vegas we drove to Page Arizona. The scenery is so pretty and well worth the trip.
From Page, we drove to Durango which is in the four corners a region of the United States consisting of the southwestern corner of Colorado, northwestern corner of New Mexico, northeastern corner of Arizona, and southeastern corner of Utah.
The next two days were relaxing with family in the beautiful Denver, Colorado. Thanks again for your hospitality. Denver is simply beautiful. There really is no other way to describe it.
After a little R & R with the family, we drove to Pikes Peak. At Pikes Peak, you feel like you are on top of the world. (Make sure you bring your puffer with you, it’s dammm hard to breath)
There is a lot of construction happening on the top, so not all cars are able to drive to the top, and there is a shuttle service offered. But if you are ever over that way, it is worth putting on into the travel plan.
So off we went again, headed to Santa Fe, we were late getting in after spending the time at Pike’s Peak.
From Santa Fe we drove to Holbrook Arizona.
Then to Kingman which is known as The Heart of Historic Route 66. Kingman is located in northwestern Arizona and I am sorry to say, Route 66 is a disappointment. One would have thought it would have been a viable investment to keep it alive because of all of the international interest in driving the route, but it is sadly almost all gone.
Look at what we saw. This is the most awesome ‘hole in the ground’ that I have ever seen. Something that you cannot describe. Just WOW ! The highlight of the trip, other than seeing the family of course!
So, at the moment, we are in Los Angeles. Had a visit to Santa Monica and Hollywood today. Crazy places, both of them. Lunch at Hooters, which was also pretty bad, when one of our party did not receive their order, and we had to chase them up for it ! Here are a few pics from today.
At Santa Monica Pier…..
And in Hollywood…..
